Hermanus Museum broken into

Thieves broke into the Whale House Museum at the Old Harbour in Hermanus on Saturday morning, 27 August 2022, and stole various items.

Criminals seem to be targeting NGOs and ‘soft’ businesses for equipment such as computers, printers, iron and shelves etc.

According to Overstrand Deputy Mayor and Mayco Member of Protection Services and Crime Prevention, Lindile Ntsabo, a case of burglary was opened at the Hermanus police station.

He expressed his concern about the increasing incidents of break-ins at these kinds of facilities.

These acts come at a great cost as resources have to be redirected for repairs and maintenance that would have assisted with other programmes.

The Municipal law enforcement teams will assist SAPS to check scrapyards dealers and second hand shops.

He said members of the public and businesses must not buy or accept any goods from people without any proper identification of the stuff from the seller.

Deputy Mayor Ntsabo urged anyone with information on the matter to contact the police.
